They aren't losing money, this game already sold a billion and this work will be used on future titles! The devs aren't doing us a favor here.In order to discover which combinations of gameplay elements result in “fun” gameplay, designers, artists and engineers must be able to quickly and easily prototype, adjust and modify the game. They are just trying to further milk consumers to pay for the R&D they were doing anyway! They would be updating the engine anyway.

They are making more games in the future. Hey but guess what, they have to upgrade the engine anyway. When you consider that with the size of the Vive install base they'll probably still lose money on it, at least for the first year or so. And of course they had to retool every single interaction to work well with motion controls, make sure 3D audio was perfect, and make sure the scale of objects in the game looked good in VR (many objects in 2d games look clownishly sized in VR). They also started working on FO4VR before the Vive came out commercially, so they had to test, code and figure out the standards we take for granted like reduced FOV, manual reloading, climbing, etc.

Originally posted by Sofa King:You guys know the Gamebryo engine is ♥♥♥♥, right? Getting that to a solid 90 FPS (required for VR) is a ton of work. There are modders who have made VR support mods for games like Half-Life 2, DOOM 3, and GTA V 100% for free, so if that's all Bethesda did then it needs to be either free or no more than $10 for people who already own FO4 + the DLC. The only way they could justify the $60 price tag in my eyes is if it was an entirely new game, new story, etc, and not just FO4 with VR support which is what it seems to be. That's making a LOT of assumptions, there. It definitely should have all DLC included, though. A lot of the game would need to be essentially remade, basically everything BUT the graphics content and hopefully audio - but even the audio working without adjustment couldn't be taken for granted (VR demands as much sound as possible be mono sources in the world). No part of the game would be left untouched, if they've done it right.
